We also considered the EF English Proficiency Index, which ranks countries based on their English language proficiency. However, it is important to note that this index is biased towards students and individuals at the early stages of their careers, as it relies on test scores from adult language learners. Nevertheless, the gender and age distribution in the index is fairly balanced.
According to the EPI, the Netherlands ranked first in English as a second language (ESL) abilities, followed by Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Singapore.
